YOUTH · IDEAS · REAL-WORLD LEARNING

Young people notice things.
We help them build what comes next.

YSMnation helps young people turn real problems into meaningful solutions through hands-on, project-based learning. We create experiences where kids get to notice, question, build, test, communicate, and discover what they’re capable of.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Young people are capable of more than completing assignments.

Give a young person a real problem, room to think, permission to try, and someone who takes their ideas seriously—and learning changes.

At YSMnation, we create experiences where young people don't simply learn about ideas. They use what they know to make something, improve it, explain it, and share it with others.

The project is the vehicle. The growth is the point.

THE YSM APPROACH

Learning gets different when you have something real to build.

01

NOTICE

Pay attention. Ask questions. Find something worth improving.

02

BUILD

Turn an idea into something you can see, touch, try, or experience.

03

TEST

Put it in front of real people. Listen. Learn. Improve.

04

PRESENT

Explain what you made, why it matters, and what you discovered.

OUR FIRST CHAPTER

Founders Lab 2026 was where we put the idea to the test.

In summer 2026, YSMnation brought together nine young people for our first Founders Lab experience.

They started by noticing problems around them. From there, they developed ideas, thought about who they wanted to help, explored cost and pricing, created products and brands, practiced communicating their ideas, and eventually met real customers at Market Day.

It wasn't the finish line. It was our beginning.

THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE IDEAS

Nine young people. Nine very different ideas.

They didn't start with business plans. They started with something they noticed—something frustrating, something missing, someone they wanted to help, or simply an idea they couldn't stop thinking about.

WHAT WE'RE LEARNING

We're learning too.

Founders Lab 2026 was our first full YSMnation experience. Some things worked exactly as we hoped. Some surprised us. And some showed us what we need to improve.

We're documenting what we learn so each experience can make the next one stronger.

Ownership changes engagement.

Young people approach the work differently when the idea belongs to them.

Real audiences change the work.

Explaining an idea to a facilitator is one thing. Explaining it to someone who might actually use or buy what you made is another.

Confidence grows through doing.

Building, presenting, receiving feedback, and trying again gives young people repeated opportunities to find their voice.

The Founder’s Pledge

“I am a founder.” … “I belong here.”

At Founders Lab, every young person begins by making a simple declaration: their ideas are worth taking seriously.

Entrepreneurship is part of the experience. But underneath it is something bigger—the confidence to notice, create, speak up, try again, and know that you have something worth contributing.

WHAT COMES NEXT

We're building the next chapter carefully.

YSMnation is still in its early years, and we're choosing to grow thoughtfully. Here's what we're working toward now.

More ways to learn

We're exploring how the YSM approach could grow into additional school, after-school, and community experiences. We're not rushing that work—we want to build it well.

THERE'S ROOM IN THIS STORY

Young people need more than programs.
They need people willing to build with them.

YSMnation is still young. That means there's room to help shape what comes next.

If you're a parent, educator, entrepreneur, business, community organization, or simply someone who believes young people deserve meaningful opportunities to create, we'd like to hear from you.
